DRAMA’SKOOL

HOLIDAY CAMPS FOR CHILDREN & TEENS

DRAMA’SKOOL is the collaboration of Anastasia Griffith and Kambua Hillman - two actors from very different generations, brought together by their vision to inspire young people through performing.

Our own love of acting, and the sense of confidence and belonging it brings, began with an inspiring teacher. Someone who didn’t care about ‘getting it right’ or ‘pass and fail’ but who valued our voice, our playfulness, and gave us the freedom to explore ourselves through stories.

It is our dream to gift the next generation with the same opportunity to play, connect and express themselves in fun and creative ways.

Through the various programs we run at Drama’skool, children will be led on a journey of self discovery that builds confidence, resiliency and the power of imagination - so each child believes that they are free to be whomever they want to be and they are perfect, just the way they are.

DRAMA’SKOOL is for all children between the ages of 7 and 14. No experience necessary… just a little trust, courage and a willingness to play with us!

We start every cohort focusing on creating a cohesive group - based on clear standards and values. We make a pact, together, to create a safe space for us all, where we get to express, go big and fail spectacularly! Where perfection is considered a wasted opportunity and creativity is rewarded.

Days 1 and 2 we play games, explore character, express ourselves and dance!

Days 3 to 5 we write a play, cast ourselves and perform it in a low pressure, highly supported environment.

Each camp will be different because we have different people taking part, but every time it is a wonderful, fulfilling and fun experience.

Please read on to find out more about what makes Drama’s Cool a unique and highly valuable experience for every child.

I believe in using the magic and play of drama to promote resilience and emotional intelligence in our children - that will stay with them far beyond our week together.

BE YOUR OWN (SUPER) HERO

A DRAMA CAMP FOR 7-14 YEAR OLDS

After a fun and connecting few days of games, movement and mask work, we use the framework of the Hero’s Journey, as outlined by Joseph Campbell, to devise an original story, rehearse it, and perform it for you, their parents.

Followed by many of their favourite on-screen tales, from Harry Potter to Star Wars, The Hero’s Journey provides an easy to use but highly effective storyboard from which to leap.- and an opportunity to see themselves in the heroic characters they create. Over this week together, the children begin to understand that their heroes, fictional or otherwise, do not begin as such, but are forged through how they respond to the challenges they face. encouraging a growth mindset and a culture of collaboration in our young performers.

In the past we have witnessed uplifting transformations and life long connections made over a few short days for our kids - whle gaining professional level acting, voice and movement training. This is a rare and powerful creative opportunity for blossoming performers and writers that will provide them with priceless personal skills in the process.

Story matters.

Stories infuse us with curiosity and build empathy around the shared experience of being human, helping us find meaning in our own journey.

Playing within the structure and themes of well known tales which give shape to the archetypal situations we humans often find ourselves in allows us to connect to our own internal life.

Once we can experience and understand our own responses and desires we can acknowledge and understand the responses and desires of those around us, so that we may begin to co-create and collaborate from a place of openness and understanding.

During our drama camps the children will be encouraged to discover their own stories: Through play they will go on a journey of self discovery from which characters will be built and stories developed.

This type of experiential learning awakens the imagination and the connection to oneself while building resilience and developing the skill of empathy for others.

“Shared creative experiences nurture the fertile ground from which a lifetime of curiosity and interconnection will grow.”
